According to the recent numbers from Nielsen, baby boomers are dramatically rising in the ownership of tablet / eReaders and those 45 and older hold the biggest market of both of these devices.
Tablet Demographics
Baby Boomers like their tablets. In 9 months, tablet market ownership jumped from 23% to 37%.
This kind of growth indicates that tablets have now entered the "mainstream" phase. This is a good sign for Apple and the iPad. Also, with growth in one area means a drop in others, and those ages 35 and down saw a smaller market share.
eReader Demographics
If Baby Boomers like tablets, they love eReaders. 30% of the market share of eReaders belongs to those over 55, and over half of the market share belongs to those 45 and up. So much for the thought that baby boomers are technology averse.
Teenager Smartphone Usage
Another interesting note about this chart... the ownership of smartphones for teenagers has dropped dramatically... why is that?
